09-05-2013: DoT has also backed BSNLs Voluntary Retirement Scheme to reduce the workforce by one lakh people. DoT said the VRS can be funded through various options, including from the money generated by selling land owned by the company or through interest-free loans by the Government.
09-05-2013: For enhancing the market share of the two telecom PSUs, telecommunications services required by government, central public sector enterprises and autonomous bodies receiving grants from the government may be asked to seek BSNL and MTNL services only for wireline, wireless and broadband services, the DoT said in a note prepared in early May, for a meeting with the group of ministers (GoM), which will take place on Friday.

05-04-2013: Cash reserve of BSNL has declined to Rs.1214.44 crores due to the loss of Rs. 6,384 crores incurred by the company in 2010-11, the payment of Rs. 18,500 crores towards 3G spectrum and Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) spectrum, payment of Rs. 5,301 crores to LIC towards group leave encashment scheme, payment of Rs.2,900 crores on implementation of revised pay scale.
05-04-2013: State owned telecom operator BSNL has reported total revenue of Rs 19,305 crore for the nine month period ending December 31, 2012. BSNL had registered total revenue of Rs 27,933.50 crore for the financial year 2011-2012 (FY-12), registering a 3.3% decline from Rs 28,876 crore revenue for the financial year 2010-2011 (FY-11).

15-01-2013: The telecom department wants the government to bail out public sector telecom majors BSNL and MTNL on payment of one-time fee. Sources told NDTV that the department of telecommunication (DoT) will apply to the cabinet for paying Rs. 1,626 crore upfront and Rs. 893 crore annually on behalf of these companies from the government's coffers.

"BSNL has proposed to surrender part of GSM spectrum in certain cities of few circles and 1.25 Mhz of CDMA spectrum in Kerala circle," a government source told PTI.

The airline has seen a remarkable turnaround in the last six-eight months when government equity infusion and a determined effort to cut off loss-making routes helped the airline become the second largest in India in terms of market share. 02-01-2013: Parliamentï¿½s standing committee on information technology has asked the department of telecommunications (DoT) to take initiatives to increase revenue receipts, as most of its earnings during the 11th Plan came from the auction of third generation (3G) and broadband wireless access (BWA) spectrum in 2010-11 and the one-time fee levied on telecom operators in 2007-08.
01-01-2013: The government is likely to tighten the estimated expenditure for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd ( BSNL) in the next Budget, as the state-run telecom operator has failed to utilise most of the funds estimated in the last Budget. The DoT has informed the Standing Committee that the poor utilisation was mainly because of delay in tender finalization .

"BSNL authorities are in process of initiating disciplinary proceedings against the official," said junior telecom minister Milind Deora in reply to a question by Congress MP PT Thomas.
